Da Brat is ready to share the good news! She and wife Jesseca “Judy” Harris-Dupart are expecting!
The rapper, whose real name is Shawntae Harris-Dupart, chatted with People on Tuesday and revealed she’s pregnant with her first child! At age 48! In the interview, she shared more about her journey with fertility:
“It’s been quite a journey. There’s a lot of stuff we learned about women over the age of 40.”
Adorably, the couple’s journey to motherhood started as a little joke in between them. Shortly after they married in February of 2022, they teased a new line of products inspired by the Funkdafied rapper’s iconic braids and protective hairstyles for Judy’s brand Kaleidoscope Hair Products by coming up with a tagline:
“It started as a joke, we were like, ‘We’re extending our family!’ But then we got a huge response. It was like, ‘Oh my God do we want to actually have kids, and if we do, girl, we better hurry up!'”
Brat’s 41-year-old wife is already a mother of three — and the rapper admitted she never saw herself going down the parenthood route until she met Judy:
“I never thought I was going to have kids. I just thought it wasn’t in the cards for me. I’ve had a great career, a full life. I felt like, because I didn’t get pregnant earlier on, then it just wasn’t going to happen for me … I started looking at life so differently. I was like, I want a little me with you. Something special from the both of us that we can share and raise and love unconditionally.”

The 48-year-old wasn’t keen on carrying the baby herself, though, especially since Judy already had experienced childbirth with three children:
“I was like, ‘nothing’s gonna come out of me!'”
The hair stylist was able to convince her otherwise! Judy said of her wife:
“We had a little tug-o-war in the beginning…but I felt like she should have the experience. She is so nurturing.”
That decision would come to be for the best, as sadly Judy faced some health complications after her egg-retrieval procedure and had to undergo surgery. And after that the couple only suffered more heartbreak when Brat miscarried:
“I had never been so excited about something that I didn’t even know I wanted. I fell in love with the idea and then it was all snatched away from me.”
So, so sad. But things turned around after they tried again with an anonymous egg donor, and now the Da B Side rapper is 18 weeks into her pregnancy:
“Luckily we still had quite a few of her eggs left … It’s just a blessing. I’m excited! I don’t have any cravings or nausea, but I’m always sleepy. It’s crazy! Everything makes me cry. If someone wins American Idol, I cry. I’m like, I’m tougher than that!”
The couple also chose to embrace Brat’s tough hip-hop persona within their gangster-inspired bump reveal photoshoot:
“I think people are going to be shocked. I loved it.”
