Sarah Ferguson has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
A representative for the 63-year-old Duchess of York – the ex-wife of Prince Andrew and mom to Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie – broke the news in a statement to People on Sunday, revealing she learned about the diagnosis following a mammogram screening. The spokesperson further noted that Sarah underwent surgery for her breast cancer and is on the road to recovery now:
“Sarah, Duchess of York was recently diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer detected at a routine mammogram screening. She was advised she needed to undergo surgery, which has taken place successfully. The Duchess is receiving the best medical care and her doctors have told her that the prognosis is good. She is now recuperating with her family.”

We’re glad to hear about her positive prognosis. The statement continued:
“The Duchess wants to express her immense gratitude to all the medical staff who have supported her in recent days. She is also hugely thankful to the staff involved in the mammogram which identified her illness, which was otherwise symptom free, and believes her experience underlines the importance of regular screening.”
Her rep also noted that Sarah recorded a podcast episode for Tea Talks with the Duchess and Sarah before her surgery happened, which is set to drop on Monday. We’ll no doubt hear more about her health matter then.
