CoCo Lee sent her devoted fans one last message before she tragically passed away.

ICYMI, the Chinese-American pop diva sadly died by suicide after she faced a series of health issues. Her sisters Carol and Nancy Lee posted on Instagram Wednesday announcing the heartbreaking news:

“With great sadness, we are here break the most devastating news: CoCo had been suffering from depression for a few years but her condition deteriorated drastically over the last few months. Although CoCo sought professional help and did her best to fight depression, sadly that demon inside of her took the better of her.”

They said CoCo attempted suicide on Sunday, but sadly doctors couldn’t save her, and she ultimately died on Wednesday:

“On 2 July, she committed suicide at home and was sent to the hospital. Despite the best efforts of the hospital team to rescue and treat her from her coma, she finally passed away on July 5, 2023.”

So, so sad.

Fans of the songstress, most known for her award-winning A Love Before Time from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and as the voice of Mulan in the Cantonese version of the Disney hit, are aware she was recovering from a major leg surgery that corrected an issue she had since she was born. She was fighting to learn how to walk again, but ultimately the struggle of her recovery and her depression was too much to bear. Devastating.

Those who knew CoCo and worked with her described her as charismatic, loving, and passionate. In her final Insta post from late last year, she continued her streak of spreading positivity, and wrote:

“OVE & FAITH ~my 2 favorite words that I carry strongly in my heart which I desperately needed to get thru this incredibly difficult year. Life seemed unbearable at times but I adapted the attitude of a “female warrior” to face them head on fearlessly but always had the biggest smile and big fat laughters! Strength, courage, n bravery is within all of us so use them. U will gain most precious “Wisdom“ which will change ur perspective on life from here onward.”

She continued on to share her big plans for the upcoming year:

“Be a hungry mind that constantly wanna learn n grow and to gain a treasure chest of wisdom. My goal in 2023 is to share my life story n how i faced major life changing hurdles n still manage to keep a positive attitude. I am happy to say I am finally living the real me. It’s the best feeling n I’m grateful everyday to be alive n I get to share my thoughts with u.”

The singer reminded her fans to be themselves and be the “boss” of their own lives:

“My dear friends… Be U n Live U! Remember there’s only 1 of u in the world, u r one of a kind. Life can be too short so dare to dream big! Everything in life is a choice so choose what brings u joy n meaning. Say bye bye to 2022, n farewell to all the shit that happened. In 2023~Live a life of good intentions, truth, have faith in what u do, SMILE n choose happy!!! Be a winner, not a victim. Don’t take things personal, never judge a book by it’s cover, do care about the suffering of others n try to help if u can, love our Mother Earth, be a good listener, gain wisdom, and have abundance of love to give to others. Be the boss of ur own life.”

CoCo wrapped things up by sharing words of encouragement:

“Stand up for something u believe in. Be an influential figure to inspire people. And keep Spreading LOVE & POSITIVITY everywhere. I’m a female warrior baby! Just like The Great Wall of China I will never fall. If I can overcome anything, so can u! You are not alone, no matter how hard life gets, I’m with u.”

Such a pure and wise soul gone far too soon…

The 48-year-old also shared one last voice message with her fans on Chinese social platform Weibo, the very day of her suicide attempt. In Chinese, she said:

“My dears, I am Coco. I’ve felt the love and support that everyone has shown me, and then… you guys are on my side, bolstering me up, um, I will continue fighting on. And… in this, in this period of time, I hope that you guys will be healthy and happy too. I really miss everyone, [and] I am working real hard.  Um, miss you all, I really miss you guys as well. Love you, love you!”

Listeners noticed how she started to get choked up for a bit before recollecting her thoughts, once again reminding them to be “happy and healthy too.” During the final heartbreaking seconds of the voice memo, CoCo said in English:

“Thank you so much for the gifts. Beautiful and very thoughtful. Love you guys.”

Just hours later, she would be in a coma, and days later she would be gone… so heartbreaking.

Rest in peace, CoCo.

The Melrose Place alum concerned friends and fans last week when she was spotted acting erratically after an appointment at an office building in Malibu. In photos and videos, she could be seen walking along the edge of a building, reading a journal, and talking to herself out loud for about an hour until she ran across the street and got in the car, where a man believed to be her fiancé, Chris Heisser, had been waiting patiently.

It was certainly an odd sight, and one made more troublesome when sources came out of the woodwork to claim she was back to drinking again and had lost 40 pounds while taking the diabetes-turned-weight-loss drug Ozempic. Now, more insiders are speaking out about the 61-year-old’s health at the moment, including an insider close to the star and her husband-to-be who told Us Weekly on Wednesday:

“She has been drinking and told friends over a month ago she wanted to go back to rehab. But she is not in rehab.”

Hmm. We suppose it’s good Heather realizes she needs help, but the next best thing would be to actually check into a treatment center.

The insider went on to say The Perfect Man lead “hasn’t left her home” recently “except for a few sightings,” including the aforementioned June 29 Malibu incident. On this, an eyewitness revealed:

“It was very strange behavior to be sure, kind of shocking. She seemed to be talking to herself, 100 percent. God knows what was going on. At one point she ran across the road making all those funny faces, then she went back and sat by herself. And why she was walking along the wall with flip-flops on? That was a seriously steep drop. If she’d fallen it would have been seriously dangerous.”

So sad…

As mentioned, Heather has had many struggles with addiction and mental health over the years — some of which landed her in legal trouble. In 2018, she was arrested twice for allegedly attacking police officers, and she almost had to go to jail for 120 days but she was able to avoid time behind bars by checking into a treatment program and remaining on probation for three years.

In November 2018, she was also placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold after reports she allegedly assaulted Chris and her therapist believed she was having a mental breakdown. Per other reports, she’s been to rehab 20 times throughout her life. So, she’s had her fair share of struggles, but things seemed to be turning a new leaf in April 2020 when she celebrated one year of sobriety, writing on Instagram at the time:

“Hugs will come later! 1 year sober today!!!”

Now, though, not everyone in her inner circle believes she ever really quit drinking. A confidant mused:

“Friends say she may never have quit drinking after a judge ordered unsupervised probation in 2019. She didn’t have any oversight so no one knows if she ever stopped drinking, even back then.”

Because of her addiction, she has sadly had many falling outs with pals in recent years, two other insiders confirmed. Another elaborated:

“Heather’s loved ones are seriously worried about her and hoping this serves as a wake-up call to get help. Everyone’s trying to get to the bottom of exactly what’s going on — not just on the day those photos were taken but in general, because it’s very clear something’s not right.”

Thankfully, she does have her family on her side during this challenging time, including her 25-year-old daughter Ava, whom she shares with her ex-husband Richie Sambora. They are said to be worried, which is very understandable considering all they’ve witnessed. We are sending positive thoughts Heather’s way and hope she gets help soon!

ICYMI, last week the Houston Police Department were called to a southwest Houston church after a passerby noticed an unconscious man lying on the ground outside. When they responded to the scene, they reportedly found an item on the man that had family identification on it, and were able to contact his family. Shockingly enough, hours later they found out this man was none other than Rudolph “Rudy” Farias — a man who had gone missing way back in 2015 — when he was only 17 years old.

Multiple outlets reported the story of what happened back when Rudy first vanished, and it seemed like a miraculous ending. Apparently he had gone out to walk his dogs in his northeastern Houston neighborhood — then his dogs returned to his home to his family, but he didn’t. His worried mother and contacted police and the Texas Center for the Missing, but to no avail. Janie Santana wouldn’t lay eyes on her son again until last Thursday — or at least that’s what she said.

Now her neighbors and people close to the investigation have conflicting reports…

According to one neighbor, Kisha Ross, Rudy wasn’t ever missing at all! She told ABC7 on Wednesday he was still regularly hanging out with her family all the time he was supposedly gone:

“He used to come in my garage, chill with my cousin, son, and daughter.”

She also said the now 25-year-old liked to go hang out in the woods by himself, adding:

“That boy has never been missing.”

What!?

But things only get more confusing… Broderick Conley, a cousin of Kisha’s, backed her up and said Rudy — or as they referred to him, Dolph — was a regular visitor at their home. They recall lots of “laughing” and “good times” with the supposedly missing man, even as recent as a few weeks ago. According to them, he only stopped coming over two weeks ago. So where has he been all this time? Oh, simple.

They say he STILL LIVES AT HOME WITH HIS MOM!!! Supposedly they hang out with him all the time, and don’t understand why anyone would report him missing.

Another anonymous neighbor also spoke to the outlet Wednesday, and claimed:

“I was just shocked someone over here was missing, and we see him.”

Rudy’s mom insists these neighbors are mistaken. She argues the man they were seeing and calling Dolph was Rudy’s cousin, and they were just confused. However, when a reporter showed the neighbors a photo of said cousin, they insist that’s not the man they know as Dolph.

WTF is going on…

Sadly, as previously reported, police aren’t able to get any information out of Rudy — he’s gone nonverbal according to doctors. Santana previously said he’s only able to get out a few words before he curls into the fetal position and “shuts down.” She also claimed to have concerns he may have been kidnapped, beaten, or even sold into sex trafficking. In a flyer regarding the search being over shortly after he was found, the family wrote:

“It’s him!!! It’s our Rudy. Rudy is in pretty bad shape, he has cuts, soft tissue tumors, small openings and swelling on the soles of his feet, along with bruising, old and new cuts/scrapes on his body, old dry blood on his head and hair, he has very very dark complexion now almost unrecognizable. It broke our hearts to see him in this condition. God only knows what he has endured during his time away from home. The note also mentions that he is in a lot of pain. He flinches if you try to touch him or hug him thinking we are going to strike him. He thinks his name is Julio Torres and he is 14 now.”

He thinks his name is Julio? And not Dolph?

So, so sad. The flyer also stated Rudy is suffering from PTSD, depression, and anxiety, as well as saying he attempted suicide.

The idea this story is actually one about a poor young man with mental health problems is sad, but it would make sense. What doesn’t is why his mother would fake his disappearance, lying to police and the press. Because if he’s been in that house the whole time, that’s exactly what she’s done.

It’s worth noting Santana only recently agreed to have her identity become public. Back in 2017, she spoke to ABC13 anonymously, citing that she was concerned her son’s disappearance was “suspicious” and she didn’t want her identity to be public. Is it possible she just didn’t want anyone to recognize her and realize she was lying? We’re so confused…

Police are due to try and talk to Rudy one-on-one today, so hopefully they’ll get some answers and get on their way to getting justice for him. We hope he’s able to heal and find peace very soon.

After years of sobriety and 20 stints in rehab, the Melrose Place alum is said to be once again struggling with her addiction. Sources for DailyMail.com opened up about the sad situation on Wednesday after the outlet previously shared photos of the actress acting erratically in Malibu last week.

In the photos and videos captured of the concerning sighting, Heather was seen with messy hair and wearing sweatpants at around 1 p.m. last Thursday. She was dropped off for an appointment by a man believed to be her fiancé, Chris Heisser, before emerging from the undisclosed meeting 60 minutes later. She then walked along the edge of the building, found a place on top of a staircase, and sat for about an hour reading through a journal and talking to herself. Eventually, she made her way to Chris, who was patiently waiting in the car the whole time.

Now, the family is left reeling amid reports Heather is drinking again, causing them to feel “helpless.” An insider told the outlet:

“Heather is drinking. The family is very worried. Everyone feels helpless. Richie [Sambora, her ex-husband], her family, especially her daughter Ava who loves her so much.”

Aside from boozing, Heather is also taking the popular diabetes medication Ozempic, which has grown popular for weight loss. The insider dished:

“Tequila has always been her drink. She can’t stay away from it. She’s also on Ozempic and obsesses over her weight. She’s lost 40lbs.”

The 61-year-old has had a well-documented history of mental health issues. In 2006, she got a DUI after breaking up with her ex-husband. She was then arrested in February 2018 for domestic violence and battery against a police officer who reported to an incident at her Thousand Oaks, California home. In June of the same year, she was arrested again for allegedly verbally and physically abusing an ambulance EMT who responded to a call for help at her home. In November ’18, the Uptown Girls alum was placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold after her therapist believed she was experiencing a mental breakdown.

In August 2019, she pleaded no contest to eight misdemeanor counts involving these incidents. She was ordered to complete a 30-day stay in a mental health facility, which resulted in a 120-day jail sentence getting suspended. So, it was a massive ordeal, but perhaps one that could have resulted in more severe punishments, one source thinks. The confidant expressed:

“Heather got off so easy with no probation or accountability after beating up cops and then threatening EMT ambulance drivers. The no accountability has allowed her to continue to hide out on top of her mountain estate and drink her tequila body into a much larger unhappier figure.”

Oof. The source also believes Heather’s behavior has been “unfair” to her partner, since “he is battling alcohol too.” Hmm.. makes us wonder if the source is more connected to him… The insider continued:

“[Chris] has to drive her for mandatory errands and try to sustain his career while lying to family and friends consistently hiding her alcohol and drug problems. […] [The couple] told friends she has been drinking again months ago and would return to rehab to no avail.”

As you can imagine, it has been very tough for Heather’s 25-year-old daughter to watch her struggle with her addiction, and this is not the first time she’s had a front-row seat to her struggles. Ava’s support is said to have been a big help in Heather’s sobriety journey in 2019, so hopefully she can be a positive influence again.

Addiction can be such a tough thing to battle. We sincerely hope Heather gets the help she needs to get back on the right track ASAP.

What heartbreaking news… CoCo Lee has died at just 48 years old.

The Chinese-American pop diva, known best for her award-winning A Love Before Time from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and as the voice of Mulan in the Cantonese version of the Disney hit, took her own life after a series of health issues.

Her family broke the news, with sisters Carol and Nancy Lee posting on Instagram on Wednesday:

They explained CoCo had attempted suicide on Sunday and was rushed to the hospital — but there was nothing anyone could do:

“On 2 July, she committed suicide at home and was sent to the hospital. Despite the best efforts of the hospital team to rescue and treat her from her coma, she finally passed away on July 5, 2023.”

Devastating.

This all comes as CoCo was in the middle of recovery from major leg surgery. She had to learn to walk all over again after a procedure to fix an old injury. In a post in February she explained how in an October 2022 dance practice she aggravated her old leg problems. She had been born with defect in her left leg — something her parents tried to fix with surgery when she was just two years old. Unfortunately it didn’t work, and she was forced to support herself on her right leg her entire life.

In March, she told fans she finally got a “successful surgery” to correct it. She explained at the time:

“Even though I’m in a lot of pain and I have to relearn how to walk again, I know I can do it. Yes, I can and I will. Thank you, everyone.”

It was an uphill battle for certain, but it sounds like it was one she was ready to face.

Unfortunately there is no surgery to correct depression. You can achieve so much success and accomplish so much, as CoCo did, and still have to struggle. As her sisters added:

“CoCo is also known to have worked tirelessly to open up a new world for Chinese singers in the international music scene, and she went all out to shine for the Chinese. We are proud of her! Although CoCo stays in the world for not long a time, her rays of light will last forever!”

CoCo is survived by husband Bruce Rockowitz and her two adult stepchildren. Our hearts are with her family at this time.

In an emotional interview with People published Wednesday, the Oscar winner opened up about a near-fatal overdose in 2020 that left her temporarily unable to walk or speak — in her own words, she remembered:

“I almost died.”

Towards the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the former child star was prescribed various medications for back and neck pain, as well as rheumatoid arthritis. Tatum had famously struggled with addiction for decades — and unfortunately, as many on such painkillers do, she began abusing the prescription drugs.

Her oldest child, son Kevin McEnroe, 37, whom she shares with former husband and tennis champ John McEnroe, explained to the outlet:

“She had become very isolated. With the addition of morphine and heavier pharmaceuticals, it was getting scary. COVID, chronic pain, all these things led to a place of isolation. In that place, I don’t think, for her, there was much hope.”

In May of 2020, Tatum overdosed from a combination of pain meds, opiates, and morphine.

A friend found her in her Century City apartment and rushed her to the hospital. There, it was discovered she’d suffered a devastating stroke, resulting in aphasia — meaning the parts of her brain responsible for communication had been affected. Kevin remembered:

“It was the phone call we’d always been waiting for. She also had a cardiac arrest and a number of seizures. There were times we didn’t think she was going to survive.”

He added:

“I had to call my brother and sister and say she was thought to be blind, deaf and potentially might never speak again.”

The Paper Moon star remained in a coma for six weeks before she finally woke up, totally unaware of her state. Kevin added:

“She didn’t know where she was. She couldn’t say, ‘I’m scared.’”

Thankfully she made it through — and can tell us just how terrifying it was for her. Tatum recalled of that dark time trapped inside herself:

“I didn’t know where I was, I didn’t know what to think, I didn’t know what to do, and I had no, no, no words at all. Nothing. And nobody could figure out what was going to go on — if I was going to die or if I was going to live, and I lived. It is a miracle.”

Even worse, COVID restrictions made it difficult for Kevin and his two younger siblings, brother Sean, 35, and sister Emily, 32, to visit their mother.

In the years since her fateful overdose, Tatum has been working toward recovery. She vulnerably told the outlet:

“I’ve been trying to get sober my whole life. Every day, I am trying.”

The 59-year-old now attends daily therapy, as well as twelve step recovery meetings. She added, “I’ve been through a lot,” sharing:

“I was an addict my whole life pretty much on and off, for the past 30 to 40 years.”

Kevin recalled his mother wanting to get sober for her kids, but never really for herself — something which has now changed since her brush with death:

“She has embraced this attempt at recovery. She was always a very loving mom but when isolated, I think it was hard to find any love for herself.”

He added:

“In the world of recovery, there can be a moment where you feel, like, ‘I can’t keep living this way.’ And I think that is what finally occurred. Now I see an enormous amount of hope. So to me this last chapter where she wants to live, wants to get sober, wants to learn, I think it’s a miracle. I think it’s beautiful. I’ve never been more proud to be her son. She’s full of love and full of heart.”

The 37-year-old continued:

“She is learning to be with herself and find some love for herself. It’s been hard but it’s been beautiful and it’s a miracle to behold. All I ask her every day is just to try. I think we’re both really lucky to have gotten this chance.”

So sweet. Tatum is so lucky to have such a supportive family. And she’s going to continue fighting for them. She explained:

“Every day I am trying. I want to be with my beautiful three kids.”

As of now, the actress noted, “I still can’t really read and write yet,” but that she plans to take her recovery “a day at a time.” Watch more (below):

Now, as it turns out, comedian Carrot Top was on that plane, too. And he’s speaking out about what happened during that extremely unsettling pre-flight incident!!

So, first, the brief backstory. The woman was on a flight out of DFW that hadn’t yet left the gate when she started walking to the front of the plane while yelling.

According to the since-scrapped TikTok vid, the woman walked into the first-class section of the plane, and then turned around and pointed to the back.

While looking back there at what was apparently an imaginary person, according to multiple media reports, she yelled:

“I’m telling you, I’m getting the f**k off, and there’s a reason why I’m getting the f**k off, and everyone can either believe it or they can not believe it! I don’t give two f**ks! But I am telling you right now, that motherf**ker back there is not real! And you can sit on this plane, and you can f**king die with them or not! I’m not going to.”

OMG…

After the vid started going on viral on Sunday, the TikToker who took it deleted their entire account, per the New York Post. You can see a re-posted copy of the shocking clip HERE, though, if you’re curious. It’s intense!!!

Per multiple media reports, she then was removed from the flight. And so were all the other passengers, too. American Airlines had everybody get up, get off, and re-group at the gate. After a long delay that lasted well over three hours, per TMZ, the flight apparently did eventually take off. Then, thankfully, it reached its scheduled destination late that night, which turned out to be… Orlando?!

We know that because as we mentioned (above), Carrot Top was on the initial flight and saw the whole thing go down just like everyone else sitting patiently in their seats. And he later shared a couple Instagram videos from the central Florida city very late on Sunday night in which he recounted his experience on the fateful flight itself.

According to one video from the 58-year-old comedian, the unidentified woman “lost her ear bud,” and that’s what caused the freakout:

“Well, this is why we’re all sitting here in Dallas now, because she lost her ear bud. Seriously.”

In the caption of the post, he added:

“I hope she’s happy!!! We’re all stuck in Dallas now because of her.”

He made that commentary while posting a re-share of another passenger’s apparent video of the unsettling incident, as you can see (below):

Then, in a later video taken while he was lying in bed that night at the end of the very, very long travel day, the veteran stand-up comic added more context.

He called the woman in question a “f**king nut job,” and claimed it was a “little stunt” that she pulled to disrupt the flight:

“My hat’s off to everyone at American Airlines today for how they handled the situation. A f**king nut job just lost her mind in front of the whole plane. And five hours later, we’re here in Orlando. I hope you’re having a relaxing evening behind bars in Dallas, Texas, and I hope you enjoyed your little stunt.”

Then, he added:

“Anyways, I missed the fireworks and everything tonight, but we’ll catch up tomorrow. OK, I’m going to bed.”

Well, whether it was a stunt like Carrot Top apparently believes, or a true mental health emergency, it was definitely distressing to watch either way. We can’t imagine what it would be like to be on that plane in that moment… We just hope this woman involved got either some legal consequences for that “stunt,” or some serious mental health help if it were distress. Ya know? Hopefully there are capable professionals around to address it either way. Ugh!

Rudolph “Rudy” Farias was only 17 years old when he went missing while walking his dogs. The strange disappearance left his family without answers for nearly a decade, but now they’re finally close to getting some. On March 6, 2015, Rudy was walking his two dogs in northeast Houston. Some time later, his two dogs returned home, but he never did.

The family was terrified when Rudy didn’t return home. They stressed at the time about his mental health, noting he was suffering from depression, PTSD, and anxiety due to losing his brother in a motorcycle accident in 2011. They searched everywhere they could, telling local news outlet KPRC on Monday that they “followed every lead” — but were never able to locate Rudy. But then, on Saturday, what the family is calling a “miracle” happened…

Rudy’s mother told ABC13, someone called police when they found her now 25-year-old son unconscious and unresponsive outside of a church in Houston. Eight years after he’d vanished without a trace, someone was able to finally return Rudy to his family. Just incredible.

Rudy was rushed to the hospital. He’s alive, but not well — he’s got a long road to recovery ahead of him. His mother explained said he’s covered in cuts and bruises, and there was blood matted in his hair. She believes whatever happened in these past eight years was traumatizing for her son, suggesting he’d been beaten and abused. She told the outlet she had concerns he was abducted and sold into sex trafficking.

Sadly, Rudy is unable to communicate, so the family aren’t yet getting the answers they’re looking for. His mother reports he can only say a few words before he goes into the fetal position and “shuts down completely,” via the outlet. They can’t get him to speak about what’s happened to him, so the family is still left with a lot of questions — and may be for a while. But the most important thing is their son is still alive — and they’re grateful.

His mom at one time worried losing his brother brought Rudy low enough to harm himself — but in an inspiring twist, she now believes the memory of him is what kept the kid fighting all these years. The 25-year-old was wearing his late bro’s necklace when he disappeared — and he still had it on when he was found. He held onto it all these years, despite whatever he went through. Whenever his mom tries to speak to him, she squeezes onto his necklace in belief it’s what kept him alive.

So, so touching.

Over the weekend, the Saturday Night Live star took to Instagram to share with fans that he will be taking a temporary step back from his podcast, Las Culturistas, in order to focus on his mental state.

The comedian vulnerably admitted in a Story post announcing the news that he’s recently been dealing with depersonalization:

“taking a very short break from [Las Culturistas]. bad bouts of depersonalization are f**king me up bad but i am doing my best to get better! please take care, be back soon.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, depersonalization, or derealization, is a disorder that occurs when “when you persistently or repeatedly have the feeling that you’re observing yourself from outside your body or you have a sense that things around you aren’t real, or both.” The medical center added that the condition is more common for those who have experienced “traumatic” events, and that it can “interfere with relationships, work and other daily activities.” A scary thought for anyone who hasn’t ever had that feeling — scarier for those who have!

We’re so sorry to hear that Bowen is going through such a difficult condition, but we’re glad he’s prioritizing getting better.

Is the comic’s depersonalization spurred by trauma? Back in 2020, Bowen opened up to the New York Times about a “dangerous” event he experienced during adolescence: gay conversion therapy. He explained that when his parents discovered he was queer at age 17 after finding “lewd conversations” on his computer, they had a hard time coming to terms with his reality. He recalled: 

“They just sat me down and yelled at me and said, ‘We don’t understand this. Where we come from, this doesn’t happen.’”

He added that soon after, his father set up gay conversion therapy sessions:

“I allowed myself the thought experiment of, ‘What if this could work?’ Even though as I read up on it, I was just like, ‘Oh, wait, this is all completely crackers.’”

The actor remembered at the time:

“There was a huge chasm of misunderstanding. Neither side really understood where the other was coming from, and it led to very dangerous situations overall.”

However, we all know now that Bowen has since fully come to terms with his identity and proudly embraces it as he carves out success on both SNL and the Las Culturistas podcast, which he’s co-hosted with Matt Rogers since 2016. But childhood trauma has a way of showing itself when it wants.

The 48-year-old former model appeared at the Essence Festival of Culture in New Orleans on Saturday, where she gave everyone an update on how she’s been ever since she exposed her ex-husband’s alleged verbal abuse to the world. She said in a video of a backstage interview shared on YBF’s Instagram Stories:

“I’m OK. I’m always OK. I’m a tough chic, I’m a single mom of five kids, that’s why I’m here because so many women are here. So much Black girl joy, brown girl joy. All the shades of joy. So it just feels good for me to be in a room like this.”

Kimora then noted that she loved being somewhere she represents fashion, saying that “it’s been like coming home.” We’re glad to hear she’s doing alright following what must have been a difficult situation.

As Perezcious readers know, the fashion mogul and her daughter Aoki Lee Simmons opened up about the Def Jam Recordings founder’s alleged abuse last month. The whole situation began when Ming Lee Simmons wished Kimora a happy Father’s Day – instead of Russel. He then responded to the post, writing on Instagram Stories:

“Stop telling fathers they should have fought harder to see their children & start asking mothers why he had to fight at all.”

That’s when Kimora took to IG Live where she detailed how “abusive” he’s been to the women in his life, specifically verbally attacking her and their two daughters. She claimed his gaslighting has been ignored by fans and their friends for years, all thanks to his “powerhouse” status. But she’s had enough of it now:

“Please don’t attack my children, they’ve been through so much. Don’t attack my family — which is supposed to be your family too. Don’t do that because you’re at rock bottom, I don’t know, you’re grasping at straws. This is a money grab? I don’t really know what this is.”

Meanwhile, Aoki broke down in tears about her relationship with her dad on her respective Instagram Live video, saying:

“This man is awful to me. He has done awful things to me and I’m so tired of it.”

She also dropped several screenshots of text messages with Russell that showed him calling Kimora a “piece of s**t.” Aoki also included a silenced video of him screaming at her over FaceTime. So, so awful. He then ended up offering up an apology for his actions — sort of.
