In 2015, Rudy’s mother Janie Santana reported her then 17-year-old son missing after he went for a walk with his two dogs and never returned. For the next eight years, she went on the hunt for her son who seemingly vanished into thin air. His family said at the time of his disappearance he was suffering from PTSD, anxiety, and depression, and were worried perhaps he had been kidnapped and sold into sex slavery. Just last Thursday, after nearly a decade, Rudy was suddenly back in the picture.

Someone who was walking by a church in Houston called the police when they noticed an unconscious man lying on the ground near the building. Upon the Houston Police Department‘s arrival to the scene, they were able to identify the now 25-year-old man as Rudy and reconnect him with his family. His seemingly relieved mother told multiple outlets she believed he had been beaten and abused. She claimed she had no idea where he was for the past eight years, and she wasn’t getting many answers because her son had gone nonverbal and was clearly suffering from the trauma.

But that’s when neighbors stepped in with some conflicting — and quite frankly disturbing — reports.

Speaking to ABC13 yesterday, several neighbors claimed Rudy was never missing at all! They told stories of how over the years the supposed missing man had been living with his mom ever since his “disappearance” and how he was a good friend they knew as Dolph. Janie wasn’t having it, though, and quickly argued the man the neighbors were seeing was Rudy’s cousin — and even tried to back up her claim with pictures — but said neighbors denied this was the man they were friends with. Hmm…

But then a bomb dropped. Local Texas activist Quanell X spoke to KHOU11 on Wednesday accusing the boy’s mother of purposefully hiding her son away from the world. He even claimed she sexually abused him:

“She would ask him to play daddy, she told him that he had to be the husband.”

While alleging Rudy returned home just two days after he was reported missing, Quanell X said Janie told her son to keep his return a secret. He also said she allegedly manipulated him into hiding for YEARS:

“She was giving him drugs. She was punishing him by locking him in a room over and over. She convinced him that law enforcement wanted to put him in jail, that law enforcement was looking for him because he ran away and that because he ran away, he was going to go to prison … She hid from her family. That was wrong and awful.”

So, so awful…

And the worst part is the police CONFIRMED some of what the activist said! In a press conference on Thursday morning, the HPD said Rudy did in fact return home right after he was reported missing by his mother. Janie was apparently deceiving police intentionally and hiding her son’s return:

“Rudy’s mother continued to deceive police by remaining adamant that he was still missing. She said her nephew was the person friends and family were seeing coming and going, however, we disputed that.”

During the time police believed Rudy to be missing, he even had contact with police officers! But his mom gave fake names and aliases to protect their identities:

“During these contacts, fictitious names and dates of births were given.”

Whoa.

During the 25-year-old’s interview with police on Wednesday at a hotel, though, they were able to confirm that he didn’t allege any sexual abuse at this time like Quanell X originally had:

“If there is a disclosure made, we will continue to investigate. We do take all allegations seriously and any new information or facts that we receive will be investigated.”

Even through all the lies and deception, though, Janie has somehow avoided all charges thus far — but the investigation team isn’t giving up:

“We’re gonna work our way through, it takes a little while. There’s a lot of developments still, even last night.”

At the end of their statement, the PD confirmed Rudy is with his mother right now:

“Rudy is safe. He is with his mother by choice.”

On Thursday afternoon, though, Janie’s sister held her own press conference and is calling BS on the decision not to charge her. She claims her sister is a liar and is only getting away with these things because she has connections with the PD through her late husband who died by suicide in 2014:

“Janie is a hypothetical liar. I’m not quite sure, but I’m gonna have to say she knows a lot of people in HPD and that’s why her freaking ass has been covered up.”

She claimed during the interview with Rudy on Wednesday, the police even had Janie in handcuffs, but were forced to let her go because the District Attorney’s Office denied any charges:

ICYMI, last week the Houston Police Department were called to a southwest Houston church after a passerby noticed an unconscious man lying on the ground outside. When they responded to the scene, they reportedly found an item on the man that had family identification on it, and were able to contact his family. Shockingly enough, hours later they found out this man was none other than Rudolph “Rudy” Farias — a man who had gone missing way back in 2015 — when he was only 17 years old.

Multiple outlets reported the story of what happened back when Rudy first vanished, and it seemed like a miraculous ending. Apparently he had gone out to walk his dogs in his northeastern Houston neighborhood — then his dogs returned to his home to his family, but he didn’t. His worried mother and contacted police and the Texas Center for the Missing, but to no avail. Janie Santana wouldn’t lay eyes on her son again until last Thursday — or at least that’s what she said.

Now her neighbors and people close to the investigation have conflicting reports…

According to one neighbor, Kisha Ross, Rudy wasn’t ever missing at all! She told ABC7 on Wednesday he was still regularly hanging out with her family all the time he was supposedly gone:

“He used to come in my garage, chill with my cousin, son, and daughter.”

She also said the now 25-year-old liked to go hang out in the woods by himself, adding:

“That boy has never been missing.”

What!?

But things only get more confusing… Broderick Conley, a cousin of Kisha’s, backed her up and said Rudy — or as they referred to him, Dolph — was a regular visitor at their home. They recall lots of “laughing” and “good times” with the supposedly missing man, even as recent as a few weeks ago. According to them, he only stopped coming over two weeks ago. So where has he been all this time? Oh, simple.

They say he STILL LIVES AT HOME WITH HIS MOM!!! Supposedly they hang out with him all the time, and don’t understand why anyone would report him missing.

Another anonymous neighbor also spoke to the outlet Wednesday, and claimed:

“I was just shocked someone over here was missing, and we see him.”

Rudy’s mom insists these neighbors are mistaken. She argues the man they were seeing and calling Dolph was Rudy’s cousin, and they were just confused. However, when a reporter showed the neighbors a photo of said cousin, they insist that’s not the man they know as Dolph.

WTF is going on…

Sadly, as previously reported, police aren’t able to get any information out of Rudy — he’s gone nonverbal according to doctors. Santana previously said he’s only able to get out a few words before he curls into the fetal position and “shuts down.” She also claimed to have concerns he may have been kidnapped, beaten, or even sold into sex trafficking. In a flyer regarding the search being over shortly after he was found, the family wrote:

“It’s him!!! It’s our Rudy. Rudy is in pretty bad shape, he has cuts, soft tissue tumors, small openings and swelling on the soles of his feet, along with bruising, old and new cuts/scrapes on his body, old dry blood on his head and hair, he has very very dark complexion now almost unrecognizable. It broke our hearts to see him in this condition. God only knows what he has endured during his time away from home. The note also mentions that he is in a lot of pain. He flinches if you try to touch him or hug him thinking we are going to strike him. He thinks his name is Julio Torres and he is 14 now.”

He thinks his name is Julio? And not Dolph?

So, so sad. The flyer also stated Rudy is suffering from PTSD, depression, and anxiety, as well as saying he attempted suicide.

The idea this story is actually one about a poor young man with mental health problems is sad, but it would make sense. What doesn’t is why his mother would fake his disappearance, lying to police and the press. Because if he’s been in that house the whole time, that’s exactly what she’s done.

It’s worth noting Santana only recently agreed to have her identity become public. Back in 2017, she spoke to ABC13 anonymously, citing that she was concerned her son’s disappearance was “suspicious” and she didn’t want her identity to be public. Is it possible she just didn’t want anyone to recognize her and realize she was lying? We’re so confused…

Police are due to try and talk to Rudy one-on-one today, so hopefully they’ll get some answers and get on their way to getting justice for him. We hope he’s able to heal and find peace very soon.

Rudolph “Rudy” Farias was only 17 years old when he went missing while walking his dogs. The strange disappearance left his family without answers for nearly a decade, but now they’re finally close to getting some. On March 6, 2015, Rudy was walking his two dogs in northeast Houston. Some time later, his two dogs returned home, but he never did.

The family was terrified when Rudy didn’t return home. They stressed at the time about his mental health, noting he was suffering from depression, PTSD, and anxiety due to losing his brother in a motorcycle accident in 2011. They searched everywhere they could, telling local news outlet KPRC on Monday that they “followed every lead” — but were never able to locate Rudy. But then, on Saturday, what the family is calling a “miracle” happened…

Rudy’s mother told ABC13, someone called police when they found her now 25-year-old son unconscious and unresponsive outside of a church in Houston. Eight years after he’d vanished without a trace, someone was able to finally return Rudy to his family. Just incredible.

Rudy was rushed to the hospital. He’s alive, but not well — he’s got a long road to recovery ahead of him. His mother explained said he’s covered in cuts and bruises, and there was blood matted in his hair. She believes whatever happened in these past eight years was traumatizing for her son, suggesting he’d been beaten and abused. She told the outlet she had concerns he was abducted and sold into sex trafficking.

Sadly, Rudy is unable to communicate, so the family aren’t yet getting the answers they’re looking for. His mother reports he can only say a few words before he goes into the fetal position and “shuts down completely,” via the outlet. They can’t get him to speak about what’s happened to him, so the family is still left with a lot of questions — and may be for a while. But the most important thing is their son is still alive — and they’re grateful.

His mom at one time worried losing his brother brought Rudy low enough to harm himself — but in an inspiring twist, she now believes the memory of him is what kept the kid fighting all these years. The 25-year-old was wearing his late bro’s necklace when he disappeared — and he still had it on when he was found. He held onto it all these years, despite whatever he went through. Whenever his mom tries to speak to him, she squeezes onto his necklace in belief it’s what kept him alive.

So, so touching.

The remains found by hikers over the weekend have been “positively identified”, according to an update Tuesday by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. They added:

“The manner of death is still under investigation, pending further test results.”

So sad. Of course he’s been missing so long we had long feared the worst. But to have it confirmed… Our hearts are a little heavier after all.

The star of such disparate fare as A Room With A View and Warlock, Julian was always welcome on our screens, no matter what the role.

There potentially has been an update on the heartbreaking case of missing actor Julian Sands.

For those who don’t recall, the 65-year-old was first reported missing by his family on January 13 after never returning from a hike on the Baldy Bowl Trail in Mount Baldy, California. Per Deadline, San Bernardino sheriffs said they conducted eight searches and eight other operations to attempt to locate Julian since then. However, their efforts haven’t been successful so far – even with attempting to retrace his steps and ping his cell phone.

The search also was sadly suspended for several months due to the weather conditions this spring. However, it resumed again last Saturday. Officials shared that over 80 search and rescue volunteers, deputies, and staff members joined the search on the mountain last week. Their effort included two helicopters and drone crews too. And now, it appears a discovery has been made amid their search.

The San Bernardino Sheriff’s Office announced in a statement released on Saturday that hikers found a body in the Mount Baldy wilderness, writing:

“At about 10:00 a.m., civilian hikers contacted the Fontana Sheriff’s Station after they discovered human remains in the Mt. Baldy wilderness. Fontana Station deputies, along with the Sheriff’s Department’s Emergency Operations Division, responded to the scene. The decedent was transported to the Coroner’s Office, pending positive identification. Identification should be completed next week.”

Although law enforcement did not mention Julian by name in the announcement, the human remains were discovered in the same vicinity of the mountain where the missing star had been hiking when he was reported missing five months ago. But we won’t know anything about the body — including whether it’s Julian or not — until next week.

This new development comes after his family released a statement since search efforts picked up again. They said in a message released on Twitter Wednesday by the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Office:

“We are deeply grateful to the search teams and coordinators who have worked tirelessly to find Julian. We continue to hold Julian in our hearts with bright memories of him as a wonderful father, husband, explorer, lover of the natural world and the arts, and as an original and collaborative performer.”

It’s a devastating realization for investigators and all the crew member’s families. Yet one person sounds hopeful there’s still a chance the adventurers could be saved!

In a new statement on Facebook on Thursday, Guillermo Söhnlein, who co-founded OceanGate Expeditions in 2009 with the current CEO and pilot aboard the Titan, Stockton Rush, suggested there may be more time to find the sub than many believe. He wrote:

“Today will be a critical day in this search and rescue mission, as the sub’s life support supplies are starting to run low.”

He continued:

“I’m certain that Stockton and the rest of the crew realized days ago that the best thing they can do to ensure their rescue is to extend the limits of those supplies by relaxing as much as possible.”

Conserving oxygen would be a smart thing to do, but it’s also gotta be very challenging considering the conditions they may be in. Not to mention the sheer panic that might take over! Addressing the air supply, he added more pointedly:

“I firmly believe that the time window available for their rescue is longer than what most people think.”

OceanGate and investigators revealed the sub had 96 hours of oxygen aboard when it took off for the dive. This means we’re already well past the timeline when they believed the oxygen would have run out. So, is this wishful thinking? We sure hope not, but it’s hard to know with the complex variables of this dilemma.

Despite obvious concerns, Guillermo urged everyone “to remain hopeful” while citing a similar incident over 50 years ago, he explained:

“In 1972, a similar rescue operation was able to retrieve two pilots trapped in a downed submersible with only 72 hours of life support. I continue to hold out hope for my friend and the rest of the crew.”

He also asked people not to speculate about what may have led to this tragedy and to instead give the investigators space to do their jobs and allow the families time to process this situation, saying:

“I ask that we wait until after the crew returns and conducts a proper debrief to speculate on what happened. We need to give those involved with the rescue enough room to focus on their work, and we need to give the crew’s families privacy to deal with their emotions in their own personal way.”

It should be noted, though, that while the businessman left the company in 2013, he’s still a minority shareholder. So, of course, he doesn’t want people to speculate about how the company may have f**ked up! He’s trying to save their reputation as much as possible. Shortly after this statement was released, search and rescue operations did announce a discovery in the investigation.

The US Coast Guard revealed on Thursday that a debris field was discovered by a rover near the Titanic site. Currently, experts are evaluating the information and are expected to share more during a press conference at 3 p.m. EST today in Boston. It’s unclear what this means for the passengers — French Titanic expert Paul-Henri Nargeolet, British billionaire Hamish Harding, Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his teen son, Sulaiman, as well as Stockton — but they and their families remain in our thoughts and prayers right now.

According to BBC News, the OceanGate Expeditions submarine that went missing amid a trek to visit the Titanic wreckage has less than 24 hours left of oxygen. It is estimated the vessel — carrying five people — will run out of breathable air on Thursday at around 6 a.m. EST. The submersible departed with about 96 hours of oxygen onboard when it began its dive on Sunday morning, per United States Coast Guard officials via CBS.

As we’ve been following, the sub, nicknamed the Titan, lost contact with its crew above water just under two hours after beginning the long dive to the sunken ship. Passengers are said to have paid around $250k for a chance to see the shipwreck in person, located about 900 miles east of Cape Cod and 400 miles south of St. Johns, Newfoundland. The Canadian Coast Guard, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Navy, and OceanGate are currently working with several agencies to locate the ship before it’s too late, but the investigation has turned up little so far.

The biggest lead came on Wednesday morning when officials announced sonar devices picked up “banging sounds,” giving investigators hope those in the sub may still be alive. Unfortunately, even if crews do locate the sub, there’s the challenge of getting the right equipment to extract it from the ocean in time. United States Coast Guard Captain Jamie Frederick said in a press conference on Tuesday:

“This is a very complex search, and the unified team is working around the clock to bring all available assets and expertise to bear as quickly as possible in an effort to solve this very complex problem.”

He added:

“We’re talking about very heavy equipment. It’s a complicated transport operation, but the best professionals in the world are working it.”

It has been reported that the passengers onboard include Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his teenage son Suleman Dawood, OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, Titanic expert Paul-Henri Nargeolet, and British billionaire Hamish Harding. According to a newly-unearthed government memo on the matter, rescue crews heard “banging sounds” spread out in roughly 30-minute intervals early this week. Those sounds were coming from the depths of the ocean near where the OceanGate Expeditions sub first went missing on Sunday morning.

Per Rolling Stone, which first obtained an “internal email” sent to the Department of Homeland Security, government officials reported that search and rescue crews heard the banging sounds while combing the ocean floor using high-powered sonar equipment.

Referencing the Royal Canadian Air Force — which has deployed a P-8 Poseidon reconnaissance aircraft to aid in the ocean search — the email reportedly read:

“RCC Halifax launched a P-8 Poseidon, which has underwater detection capabilities from the air. The P-8 deployed sonobuoys, which reported a contact in a position close to the distress position. The P-8 heard banging sounds in the area every 30 minutes. Four hours later additional sonar was deployed, and banging was still heard.”

Whoa…

And the banging sounds apparently didn’t stop there, either. According to CNN, which reported a second email sent via American federal government officials, “additional feedback” was also heard throughout the day on Monday. That email was less specific about what the “feedback” was, but it read:

“Additional acoustic feedback was heard and will assist in vectoring surface assets and also indicating continued hope of survivors.”

Those aren’t the only investigative updates journalists have revealed in the last 24 hours, either.

In addition to the P-8 aircraft, the Royal Canadian Air Force has deployed a P-3 Orion to the site of the sub’s initial dive. The P-3 is also a military reconnaissance plane that can track submarines and submersibles. During its flight across the North Atlantic Ocean, the P-3 located “a white rectangular object in the water,” according to a Wednesday morning update from CNN.

A ship was sent to investigate the presence of that “white rectangular object.” However, before they could reach the site where it was spotted, CNN reports that crew was diverted to investigate the sources of the aforementioned “acoustic feedback” and “banging sounds” instead.

Sadly, in a statement to the media late on Tuesday, the US Coast Guard explained that those searches “yielded negative results.” A spokesperson for the Coast Guard went on to add:

“Additionally, the data from the P-3 aircraft has been shared with our U.S. Navy experts for further analysis which will be considered in future search plans.”

As we’ve been reporting, the US Navy has already sent “subject matter experts” and their renowned Flyaway Deep Ocean Salvage System to the scene to assist in pulling up the missing submersible and rescuing its occupants. The aforementioned US Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Air Force have also sent more aircraft and vessels to the area — which is about 900 miles east of Cape Cod, Massachusetts — to continue the search.

Authorities remain hopeful that the banging sounds could suggest the missing people in the submersible are still alive. A former US Navy diver named Bobbie Scholley explained the importance of those sounds being picked up on sonar equipment in an interview earlier this week with CNN:

“The submersible is going to be making sounds itself with the systems on board … the crew, hopefully, are making noises as well. Those sonar buoys are picking up, they’re very good and they’re detecting these noises.”

Scholley continued:

“The hard part is finding the submersible. And once they find the submersible, there are all sorts of situations of how to get that submersible to the surface, and rescue the crew.”

No kidding.

As you know, the OceanGate sub went down on Sunday morning for an excursion to the famous wreckage. The home base of the submersible usually keeps in touch with the sub via Elon Musk‘s Starlink satellites, but they lost contact with the crew early in the morning on Father’s Day — and haven’t heard from them since.

As of midday Tuesday, Captain Jamie Frederick of the First Coast Guard District in Boston says the five confirmed passengers on the sub known as Titan have only about 40 hours of oxygen remaining — that is, if Titan didn’t meet a worse fate. Journalist David Pogue rode in the sub last year and said the two main forms of communication: safety pings and text messages. Both of these stopped about an hour and forty-five minutes into this excursion, and he told CBC there are two possible outcomes:

“There are only two things that could mean. Either they lost all power or the ship developed a hull breach and it imploded instantly. Both of those are devastatingly hopeless.”

So, so awful…

The sub reportedly had seven backup plans, all of which were supposed to bring it back to the surface in the event of an emergency — even if everyone aboard was unconscious. The fact that none of the aircrafts or search and rescue teams that were looking have seen the sub makes the outcome only look more grim.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Navy is sending down their own Flyaway Deep Ocean Salvage System in hopes of finding the submarine to pull it to the surface. The salvage system is usually used for picking up bulky objects from the ocean floor, including aircrafts and ships, so if they’re able to find the Titan, they should be able to pull it ashore.

Right now, it’s not looking like this story is going to have the happy ending, but we continue to hope everyone is found safe.

Search and rescue crews are painstakingly trying to find a tourist submarine that disappeared while exploring the wreckage of the Titanic. In case you didn’t know, there are submarines that actually take on passengers when descending to the depths of the Atlantic Ocean to explore the remains of the world-famous ship. One such company offering this adventure is OceanGate Expeditions. For the totally reasonable price of about $250,000 per ticket you can be one of the few souls to have seen the famous wreckage of the British ship up close, in person.

But of course, no excursion into the dark depths of the sea comes without risk — something a handful of passengers found out on Sunday morning when a tourist sub disappeared during a trip to the bottom. There are believed to be five missing — one sub captain and four passengers. Among them are Stockton Rush — the CEO of the company who leads these tours, French explorer and Titanic expert Paul-Henry Nargeolet, Shahzada Dawood and his teenage son, Suleman, British billionaire and pilot Hamish Harding. Harding is a known adventurer. According to SkyNews, he had just gotten back from a trip to space in Jeff Bezos‘ aircraft before going down to see the Titanic.

The base lost contact with the sub about an hour and 45 minutes into the dive, according to the Coast Guard. They suspect it could be caught up in the wreckage of the ship itself, which is in US waters right off the coast of Canada’s Newfoundland. In any case, the rescue needs to happen FAST, because Rear Admiral John Mauger reported in a press conference on Monday the sub only has about “70 to the full 96 hours available at this point.” So scary…

The Coast Guard and rescue crews are reportedly doing everything they can to find the sub — with Mauger confirming they’ve reached out to the US Navy and the Canadian Armed Forces to get extra assistance in the matter.

Kandace Schipper had been traveling in Tokyo, Japan, since May 8 with a male friend named Luis Torres. The 29-year-old stayed in touch with her throughout her travels abroad, but things changed on June 4 when all communication suddenly ended. They haven’t heard from her – or the 27-year-old pal – since, causing a ton of concern for her relatives. Kandace’s brother-in-law Adam Willea told WGN-TV:

“Every single day she had been communicating with family and friends. I mean text, phone calls, pictures, updates, Instagram posts. And then it all abruptly ended on June 4th.”

The Chicago resident’s last known location was in Shibuya, Tokyo, where her family received a notification about a credit card transaction. Adam said they have since filed a missing persons report with the Chicago Police Department, which contacted the U.S. Embassy and authorities in Japan to help search for Kandace. However, the family has experienced some issues with the Tokyo Metropolitan Police.

According to Willea, law enforcement abroad will not help or even begin filing a missing persons report until Kandace has missed her flight home. And what makes this situation complicated then? Adam shared that this has posed a problem for the family “because technically, her flight home isn’t scheduled yet.” Oh no. He added:

“We’re here stateside. There’s literally nothing we can do. So, this helpless feeling of not knowing if she is in a hospital, is she being held somewhere against her will? Is she hurt? There’s nothing we can even do because it’s in Toyko, Japan. We need feet on the ground over there.”

We cannot imagine how scared and helpless this family must be, especially since they’ve hit a roadblock with the Tokyo Metropolitan Police and seemingly cannot do much to find answers about Kandace’s whereabouts right now. Her sister Nicole Willea shared a post to Facebook on Tuesday, begging anyone with information about Kandace to come forward. She wrote:

“Our family is experiencing one of the worst fears possible. My sister, Kandace Schipper has been unreachable since June 4. She has been traveling in Tokyo Japan since May 8. She was communicating every day from Tokyo to family and friends but has not been reachable in 9 days. A missing person report has been filed in Chicago and the US embassy has been alerted. Her last known location June 5th in Tokyo was the Shibuya City area.”

Kandace is believed to have been staying at the APA Hotel. She is also described as 140 pounds and 5 feet 10 inches tall. We’re keeping Kandace’s family in our thoughts during this trying time and hope that she is reunited with them soon.
