But not everybody is excited to see him be embraced again by fans. And considering the legal situation he and Heard were previously involved in, we can’t say we’re surprised…

While the 59-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean star was busy appearing on the red carpet at Cannes, Amber’s closest friend was calling out the festival’s perceived hypocrisy over on Instagram. Over the weekend, journalist Eve Barlow posted a series of images to her IG account slamming Cannes leaders for allowing Depp such a soft landing spot to promote his new movie, which is directed by French actor-slash-filmmaker Maïwenn.

Barlow, who is currently living with Heard and the actress’ daughter Oonagh in Madrid, posted a strong statement about the festival seemingly “supporting” troublesome men. In it, she wrote:

“Cannes seem proud of their history supporting rapists and abusers. Plus ça change. #CannesYouNot.”

Along with Depp, who Barlow slammed as being part of a film that is “representing abusers at Cannes,” the journalist also pointed to several other notable Hollywood men who have been accused of misconduct.

The images included shots of controversial directors Woody Allen and Roman Polanski — each of whom have been accused of sexual misconduct with minors — as well as convicted rapist producer Harvey Weinstein, accused serial sexual harasser actor Gérard Depardieu, and accused rapist director Luc Besson (who also happens to be Maïwenn’s ex-husband — they got married when she was just 16).

As you can see (below), Barlow also shared various slides with incriminating quotes from Depp that were revealed at his infamous defamation trial against Heard:

No word on how the other famous men in those images have reacted to the post. As for Depp, insiders are already speaking out about it. A source close to the longtime star told Page Six on Tuesday afternoon upon seeing Barlow’s IG post:

“The other people in this post are alleged or convicted child predators and rapists; that is not Johnny. He won his trial and he was not accused of anything like this.”

Then, later on Tuesday, Barlow again returned to IG with a similar angle of defense for Heard.

This time, the journo took aim at French cosmetics giant L’Oréal and demanded they continue to stand with Amber as a brand ambassador through the aftermath of her controversial trial with Depp:

As we previously reported late last week, the Kentucky-born star just inked a record eight-figure deal with Dior to return as the face of Sauvage. Plus, he’s got a directorial debut with Al Pacino in development right now, too. But clearly, not everybody is happy about that.

According to Dailymail.com on Saturday night, a source close to Bennifer insisted that “the narrative that they’re continually fighting is false,” adding that “they’re in an incredibly good place, very loving and supportive of each other.”

For those who haven’t been keeping up on the drama, the couple has been caught having what appeared to be a few “tense” exchanges – including at the premiere of her latest film called The Mother. Ben and Jennifer were walking on the red carpet on Wednesday night, and it looked like they got into an argument in front of the cameras at one point. Of course, photographers captured their seemingly heated conversation, and the snapshots had everyone convinced they were in the middle of a fight. But a lip reader shut down the speculation, claiming they were talking about how to pose for the cameras and she asked if her top was “showing too much.”

Now, Dailymail.com reports that their conversation was nothing more than them “talking about where to meet the rest of their family following the carpet for the screening.” The outlet confirmed that Jennifer’s 15-year-old twins Emme and Max and Ben’s three children 17-year-old Violent, 14-year-old Seraphina, and 11-year-old Samuel were at the film premiere.

But that wasn’t the only instance where they appeared to be fighting! A video surfaced on Saturday of the two bickering while driving around Beverly Hills earlier this week. The person who took the clip claimed the 50-year-old actor was “frustrated or irritated” while Lopez seemed “timid” and “looked a little bit sad” during their “argument.” The eyewitness added:

“There were a lot of hand gestures. Ben was waving his hands up and down, and it looked heated.”

However, a source who knows the couple insisted to Page Six that they were not arguing at the time:

“You can clearly see they are having a conversation, and she is listening to him. He’s a storyteller and can be animated when he speaks.”

Most recently, a video went viral of Ben slamming a Jennifer’s car door and walking to the other side of the vehicle with an annoyed expression. Now, the 50-year-old filmmaker obviously could have been frustrated with the paparazzi in his face at the time. But many believed this was a sign that they were struggling with their relationship or someone simply caught them amidst an argument.

Speculation continued to escalate after they were seen the following day having a tense exchange during the premiere of Jennifer’s film The Mother. Ben appeared upset, as he was frowning and holding up his pointer finger at Jen – convincing everyone they were arguing on the red carpet. See (below):

However, pictures don’t always tell the entire story! The couple was seen packing on PDA in other photos, and a lip reader revealed the two were discussing whether her top was “showing too much” and their positioning for the cameras on the carpet.

For a few months now, there has been some speculation amongst fans over whether there is some trouble in paradise for the couple after witnessing their tense interactions during several public appearances together. It started when they attended the Grammys in February, where Ben was spotted looking less than enthused to be there and getting scolded by J.Lo (or at least that’s what it looked like). However, Ben later clarified what really happened to The Hollywood Reporter, saying:

“I saw [Grammy host Trevor Noah approach] and I was like, ‘Oh, God.’ They were framing us in this shot, but I didn’t know they were rolling. I leaned into her and I was like, ‘As soon they start rolling, I’m going to slide away from you and leave you sitting next to Trevor.’ She goes, ‘You better f**king not leave.’ That’s a husband-and-wife thing. I mean, some of it is, I’m like, ‘All right, who is this act?’ Like, I don’t keep up. My wife does, obviously. And yeah, it is your wife’s work event.”

But that hasn’t stopped everyone from believing things may not be peachy between Ben and Jen right now! After all, it wouldn’t be the first time a celeb smoothed things out with damage control.

Since then, a video has gone viral of the “miserable” 50-year-old actor opening the car door for the 53-year-old singer – only to seemingly slam it the second she gets in. He then walked around to the other side of the vehicle and gave the camera what appeared to be an annoyed look before getting into the car himself.

Obvi there is a strong chance that Ben was upset over being followed by the paparazzi. However, many people believed that these two were unhappy together, in the middle of a fight, or both – especially since that wasn’t the only tense moment between the pair seen on camera!

On Wednesday night, Jennifer and her hubby stepped out onto the red carpet at the El Lay premiere of her new movie The Mother. But rather than looking like the loving couple that many fans have seen in the past, the Ain’t Your Mama songstress was first photographed having an intense argument with Ben. At one point, the Gone Girl star was frowning at Jen and holding up his pointer finger at her – leading everyone to believe they were in the middle of a fight! Oof. But as you know, images don’t always reflect the truth of what’s happening in a situation. Because while it looks like these two arguing on the red carpet, that turned out to not be the case! According to a lip reader, they told Dailymail.com on Thursday that the pair were really just discussing how to pose for the photographers! The expert claims Jennifer asked Ben if her top was “showing too much,” to which he responded that it was OK. When they went to pose together, the Argo director seemingly told her to move close to him before whispering in her ear:

“Don’t worry, baby.”

She then replied:

“Come close to me.”

After the pictures were taken, Ben then turned to face his wife and said, “That’s us, done.” He then kissed her before asking if she was alright. Jen informed him she was OK at the time, adding that they needed to “step over there.” From there, the two went on to pack on the PDA for the cameras and Ben looked adoringly at Jennifer while she reapplied her lip gloss at one point. So apparently, there were no issues between them at the event! If anything, the stressful nature of the red carpet appearance seemed to be the reason the two were a little tense. Beyond that? They appeared to have a good time moving forward! As we’ve said before, Ben is known for having a resting “miserable” look on his face. So just because he may appear upset or annoyed during a public outing with Jennifer, that doesn’t automatically mean these two are having marriage problems!

They were so cozy, in fact, that insiders are now openly pondering their potential climb towards romantic chemistry! Squeeee!

As eagle-eyed watchers of Monday night’s Met Gala know all too well, Anna was draped in always-classy Chanel at the impactful fashion event honoring her late friend Karl Lagerfeld. But it was what else was draped on Anna come Monday evening — as in, the Love Actually actor — which is really making us take notice!!

Because Nighy and Wintour posed so openly and closely for cameras while climbing the stairs at the event, insiders are rushing to divulge deets about whether or not they’re actually dating!

A rep for the Buckley’s Chance actor gave a very explicit and simple denial to Page Six on Tuesday. In that rep’s words, Bill and Anna are merely friends right now — just like they have been for years:

“Bill and Anna have simply been great friends for two decades. They are not in a relationship.”

And yet…

…Not everybody was so keen on denying the romantic chemistry between them!

A source “close to the Condé Nast chief” seemed to directly undercut Nighy’s rep with an extremely simple statement that offered up a 180-degree-opposite sentiment:

“We think last night speaks for itself.”

Awww!

Those in attendance at Monday night’s shindig also offered up their observations of how the high-class pair interacted. An unnamed attendee simply said this:

“They are so cute.”

While another dropped a BIG bomb!

This insider told the outlet Wintour “was smiling the entire time” she was with Nighy on Monday evening, and explained:

“They are the new royal couple of fashion! Look at their body language — I have never seen Anna like that before.”

Plus, this source added, Bill’s insistence on having Anna’s arm in such a way is a very different move from what she was used to publicly with her former partner Shelby Bryan:

“Even when she was with Shelby he would always stand behind her.”

Hmmm…

Now there is no question Anna and Bill have been close pals for decades, like Nighy’s rep stated. They’ve been spotted out and about in NYC, London, and elsewhere on and off for years now. But never quite like this before!!

As for Nighy, he split from longtime partner Diana Quick back in 2008. They share an adult child, too — actress Mary Nighy.

Hilariously, Bill was asked about his longstanding connection to Anna in an interview earlier this year. Back in February, the Telegraph posed him a question about whether he was dating Wintour. His reply at the time was classic:

“I’d love to answer that, but if I did, I’d be involving the Telegraph’s readers in something very close to gossip, and I know they’d never forgive me for that.”
