The Duke and Duchess of Sussex sat down for a candid conversation in a CBS tell-all which aired in March 2021, shortly after they exited their roles as working royals and moved to California.

The interview would end up revealing allegations of mistreatment and racism the Sussexes reportedly had to deal with from the prestigious family, including conversations about the couple’s then-unborn son Prince Archie‘s skin color. Innerestingly, Harry has since denied ever accusing the royals of being racist, but rather of exhibiting unconscious bias.

It was a tumultuous time for the entire royal family, but it seems Will may have been feeling the most guilty going in — because he was so worried he couldn’t eat, per sources!

In a heated debate on Dan Wootton‘s GB News on Tuesday, Mail on Sunday‘s Editor-at-Large, Charlotte Griffiths, declared:

“I’ve heard this for a long time now from many different sources … in the lead-up to that Oprah interview, William was quite literally sick with worry. He was not eating, and he became — not reclusive — but he definitely was hiding away. He went to a royal residence for a period of time to cut himself off from the world. He was just in bits, basically.”

Later, the reporter stressed how serious the situation was, adding:

“Literally, he couldn’t eat for a week before the Oprah interviews.”

All because he was worried about what Harry would say? Jeez. Does this mean he thought he had a reason to be nervous?! Despite all this anticipation, Harry went pretty easy on his older brother, compared to others, in the Oprah sit-down — much unlike he did in Spare! Was he worried something else would be revealed? Like the story about him hitting Harry? Something else??

Unlike Will, Princess Catherine, AKA Kate Middleton, got “steely” as she was ready to step in to “protect” her husband, Charlotte shared:

“And what Kate was doing was standing by her man. Kate was like, ‘I’ve got to stick up for this guy and protect him. He’s being destroyed by this,’ and that probably made her quite steely, even though she has this reputation for being shy. But when it comes to protecting her husband, she’s going to step in and protect him.”

This comes after it was revealed Kate and William fought to make sure Queen Elizabeth II‘s statement after the TV special hit back as hard as possible at the racism claims.

In an excerpt of the paperback edition of Valentine Low‘s book Courtiers, he claimed the Prince and Princess of Wales campaigned for the inclusion of the phrase “some recollections may vary” in the statement. As Perezcious readers know, Elizabeth said at the time:

“The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan. The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. Whilst some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”

The phrase in question was key to showing the royal family did not stand by everything their estranged relative had declared. It was the shadiest line by far in the response — and it almost didn’t make it into the official press release, Valentine wrote:

“It had a much milder version. The debate was, do your rise entirely above it and offer the olive branch of (Harry and Meghan being) ‘much loved members of the family’? Or is there some moment when you have to intervene and offer a view?”

Thanks to the Cambridges, a more aggressive version was published:

“They wanted it toughened up a bit. They were both of one mind that we needed something that said that the institution did not accept a lot of what had been said.”

Kate and Will’s plan worked! And we could likely be seeing more strategic moves like this in the future. According to Low’s source, the mother of three is now “playing the long game” as she knows she’ll be queen one day. So, she’s preparing for her big moment when she’s really in charge. And, let’s just say, that doesn’t bode well for Harry or Meghan if all this is true! If William and Kate haven’t softened to the couple at this point, who knows if the feud will ever resolve itself…

It turns out the 4-year-old received a surprise gift from two kind shop owners in California while the rest of the world was celebrating King Charles III‘s coronation last month. On Friday, the owners of Mad Dogs & Englishmen Bike Shop in Montecito told People they decided to gift the young prince with a bike on his special day — and they hand-delivered it to the Sussexes’ home!!

Shop owner Jennifer Blevins revealed her British partner and shop co-owner Martin woke up on Archie’s birthday and just had to send him a present. She recalled:

“He went and he got one of our little specialized kids’ bikes — they’re really nice little bikes — and he’s like, ‘This one’s perfect, it’s got training wheels.'”

Once he had the gift in hand, he decided to bring it to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s house himself! Yes, he literally just showed up!!! She continued:

“And so he went and got some birthday balloons, and he got some flowers for Meghan and a birthday card, and he said, ‘Okay, I’m gonna bike over and take it to their house.'”

Wow!

Who knew you could just show up?? Once he arrived at the property, Martin was stopped by security from behind the gate of the home, who wondered if he’d received an invitation from the couple. Laughing, Jennifer relayed:

“He said, ‘I’m just a British business in town that wanted to give Archie a gift.'”

After running an on-site background check on the shop owner, security allowed him to leave the gift, which entailed flowers, a card, balloons, and the bike.

One month later, the bike enthusiasts received a surprise of their own when they got something special in the mail! On Wednesday, they received a formal thank you letter from the royals! She shared:

“A courier came by our little shop on Coast Village Road, and he dropped off that letter.”

She quipped:

“I was making a joke, I said, ‘It better be a thank you letter,’ and it really was! I wasn’t expecting that. I had no idea. […] It was so thoughtful because, you know, they took the time to write something personal and not just a generic thank you.”

The letter was written by Harrison Colcord at the Office of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and was posted to the shop’s Instagram account. It read:

“On behalf of Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, please accept their sincere thanks for the thoughtful gift you sent to Prince Archie for his fourth birthday. The bike has brought much joy, and is most appreciated by the family. They asked that I convey their gratitude at the lovely surprise.”

Very sweet!

The letter was especially touching to the couple since it was an “impromptu” and “very sincere” gesture on their part to give Archie the bike. They never expected anything in return, and yet, Harry and Meghan still reached out. Jennifer said:

“Every celebrity in that town has bought bikes from us, and they all come through there. None of them sent a thank you letter.”

Well, buying a bike and receiving one for free is a little different, but we get her point. It was very nice of Harry and Meghan to reach out! Moving forward, the bike shop owners hope little sister Princess Lilibet can also benefit from the gift:

“His little sister Lili can enjoy it too as she grows — it’ll be one that both of them like.”

Love it!

We’re sure Archie’s enjoying the bike! It’s also nice that someone was thinking of him knowing he had to share the day with his grandfather. In a new piece published by The New Yorker on Monday, J.R. Moehringer opened up about the best and worst of times working with the Duke of Sussex on his memoir. Notably he recalled a major fight he thought might be the end of the working relationship. The pair were already two years into working on the book when they began fighting on a 2 a.m. Zoom call over the exact same edit for what felt like the hundredth time.

The particular passage focused on Harry’s “grueling military exercises” in England when he was captured by pretend terrorists and put through a list of traumas to see if he had what it took to handle a real battle. The scenario ended with one of the actors making a “vile dig” at his late mother, Princess Diana, that crossed the line on all accounts. Harry was determined to end the section by including his comeback, but the author insisted it would read better without it. Moehringer recalled:

“Harry always wanted to end this scene with a thing he said to his captors, a comeback that struck me as unnecessary, and somewhat inane. Good for Harry that he had the nerve, but ending with what he said would dilute the scene’s meaning: that even at the most bizarre and peripheral moments of his life, his central tragedy intrudes. For months, I’d been crossing out the comeback, and for months Harry had been pleading for it to go back in. Now he wasn’t pleading, he was insisting, and it was 2 a.m., and I was starting to lose it. I said, ‘Dude, we’ve been over this.'”

Harry had dug his heels in, though, and it was intimidating AF! J.R. continued:

“Although this wasn’t the first time that Harry and I had argued, it felt different; it felt as if we were hurtling toward some kind of decisive rupture, in part because Harry was no longer saying anything. He was just glaring into the camera.”

Ultimately, the Archewell founder did explain why this one line was so important to him, sharing:

“Finally, he exhaled and calmly explained that, all his life, people had belittled his intellectual capabilities, and this flash of cleverness proved that, even after being kicked and punched and deprived of sleep and food, he had his wits about him.”

Still, the writer didn’t think it was worthwhile to include it in the book — the point was about what he was put through, not to make him look good. Harry finally saw the writer’s POV — and he didn’t lose his job in the process, though he certainly feared he might!

Elsewhere, J.R. recalled out much Meghan Markle helped to welcome him as he spent time in California visiting with the family and working with Harry in person. During the first trip, J.R. took with his family, his daughter Gracie was impressed with Harry’s “vast Moana scholarship,” noting that he told her his favorite scene is “when Heihei, the silly chicken, finds himself lost at sea.”

On a solo trip when J.R. was struggling with homesickness, he recalled, the Suits alum was super attentive to his needs:

“Harry put me up in his guesthouse, where Meghan and [Prince] Archie would visit me on their afternoon walks. Meghan, knowing I was missing my family, was forever bringing trays of food and sweets.”

Aw! Very nice! Later, the writer mused on his relationship with Harry, and especially the similarities he soon discovered, saying:

“I wondered if we’d have any chemistry. We did, and there was, I think, a surprising reason. Princess Diana had died twenty-three years before our first conversation, and my mother, Dorothy Moehringer, had just died, and our griefs felt equally fresh.”

Whoa! What a big connection! On the importance of helping Harry tell his story, J.R. expressed:

“I found his story, as he outlined it in broad strokes, relatable and infuriating. The way he’d been treated, by both strangers and intimates, was grotesque. In retrospect, though, I think I selfishly welcomed the idea of being able to speak with someone, an expert, about that never-ending feeling of wishing you could call your mom.”

Yes, really! Fans thought she secretly traveled to the UK by herself, threw on a wig, and managed to snag a seat in Westminster Abbey for the historic day! All without her family knowing.

We’re not sure if anyone actually believed it for real, but to shut down the speculation even further, we can tell you EXACTLY where Meghan was. The actress made a rare appearance in California over the weekend.

As Perezcious readers know, Prince Harry attended the event solo so his wife could stay home with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Along with the coronation, Saturday was also Archie’s fourth birthday, so they had some celebrating of their own to do, but the Duchess was also choosing to stay away from the UK as a method of “protecting her peace” amid the ongoing royal rift.

After the big day was said and done, on Sunday morning, Meghan was seen enjoying a 40-minute hike with her friends Markus Anderson and Heather Dorak. The kids were not with her — probably resting at home with Harry after the birthday bash!

In photos obtained by Page Six, the 41-year-old could be seen wearing a black tank top and leggings with a green jacket tied around her waist. She attempted to go incognito in sunglasses, a bandana, and a large hat. Ch-ch-check it out:

As Perezcious readers know, while the King and Queen Camilla were getting crowned at Westminster Abbey on Saturday for the whole world to see, Archie was back at home with his momma, Meghan Markle, and little sister, Princess Lilibet, celebrating his big day on a much smaller scale.

With all the hubbub of the coronation, notably no royals took a moment to acknowledge the four-year-old’s birthday on social media, which naturally had to have felt like a dig to the Sussexes. We mean, two of Prince William‘s children celebrated birthdays last week and they got public shout-outs. What gives?

Well, Charles probably realized how rude he was being for not recognizing his grandson because the little one got a big — though sad — mention at a post-coronation event.

According to DailyMail.com on Sunday, the royal family and their closest friends gathered at Buckingham Palace for a reception when the 74-year-old raised a glass and toasted Harry’s eldest. Innerestingly, Harry wasn’t there to hear it! Per the outlet, the Duke was reportedly extended an invitation to join his family at the luncheon after the coronation, but he opted to jet right back home to make it back to Cali to see the birthday boy. A well-placed source said most of the royals “breathed a sigh of relief” that the Archewell founder didn’t join them, but Charles seemed “genuinely quite disappointed that he didn’t stay.” Aw!

Before everyone started eating, the Prince of Wales stood up and congratulated his father on the historic occasion. Charles then replied by thanking everyone who had made the day so special. He also took a moment to highlight his three grandchildren, Prince George (who served as a Page of Honour), Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. For once, he didn’t leave out his other grandchildren, though! He then made a point to toast “those that weren’t there” and wished Archie a happy birthday “wherever he was.” The source added:

“It was apparently a very sweet moment.”

Whoa! While it’s great he addressed Archie’s special day, we can’t help but notice how passive-aggressive this sounds. Last we heard, Archie and Lilibet were never even invited to the coronation — yet he’s seemingly calling them out for being elsewhere! SHADYYY.

Also, as you might recall, back before Harry RSVP’d, OK! sources reported he and his wife had a list of demands, one of which was for Archie’s birthday to be publicly acknowledged with “some kind of nod to that at a lunch or drinks reception.” Soo, who knows if this was a genuine toast or just a requirement the monarch had to fulfill?? Just saying!

Other attendees of the exclusive gathering included Camilla’s sister Annabel Elliot, and her best friend, Lady Lansdowne, both of whom served as her attendants on the day of the crowning. Her children Tom Parker Bowles and Laura Lopes were also there with their children Lola, Freddy, Eliza, Louis, and Gus. Meanwhile, Princess Catherine‘s parents Michael and Carole Middleton, and siblings Pippa and James were present.

Guests enjoyed a “running buffet” at the palace while official coronation pictures were taken by Hugo Burnand. Drinks and a “modern take” on the traditional coronation chicken canapes were served. After lunch, most family members went to Windsor Castle for a private family drinks party, as they did on the eve of the coronation, as well. But little alcohol was served at the parties as everyone needed to “keep a clear head.” LOLz! Can’t have all the royals getting sloshed amid the big weekend!

Meanwhile, Meghan was busy throwing a small gathering for family and friends in Montecito, an insider told People:

“It’s going to be a low-key party at home. They’ll have friends around them and Meghan’s mom, Doria [Ragland]. Meghan will definitely have support that weekend.”

Instead, the royals have kept all of their social media posts about Charles’ historic coronation that took place on the same day as Archie turned 4 years old.

Adding salt to the wound? Archie’s birthday came just four days after his cousin Princess Charlotte turned 8 years old and one week after her younger brother Prince Louis turned 5 years old. Now, it was obviously a big day for Charles and Camilla as they were crowned king and queen during an elaborate ceremony at Westminster Abbey on Saturday. They were all pretty busy this weekend. Fortunately, it looks like Meghan and Harry’s friend Misan Harriman took to Instagram to wish Archie a happy birthday on Saturday. Alongside a screenshot from their docuseries showing a young Archie touching a pic of his late grandmother Princess Diana, she wrote:

“Wishing you the happiest of birthdays Archie.”

With just three days left until King Charles III‘s coronation, royal biographer Omid Scobie appeared on Wednesday’s episode of This Morning to discuss Prince Harry‘s attendance and the importance of the Suits alum’s absence.

As Perezcious readers know, the Sussexes waited months to find out if they would be invited to the ceremony amid rising tensions in their family. Just one month after it was confirmed they were both welcome, Buckingham Palace revealed only the Duke would be attending — a decision that was met with a ton of relief from the royals.

On why the actress decided to take this route, the royal expert, who is close with the couple, pushed back on the theory she’s merely staying home to celebrate Prince Archie‘s birthday, which falls on the same day as the crowning. Instead, he suggested:

“People around the Sussexes guided press at the time that this was very much about Archie’s fourth birthday. I disagree with that to some extent because I also know from friends of hers that she’s protecting her peace, as well. She is aware just how much of the spotlight goes on her when she sets even a foot near the story.”

He continued:

“It’s portrayed as intentional that she wants to steal the spotlight, but in this case, should she have simply come over and stood next to her husband, I would imagine the commentary and the narrative on the day would have been very different for the days that followed.”

Because of this, he thinks the royals are “relieved” she won’t be there in person. The Finding Freedom author noted this has been a pattern the whole family has picked up on since pretty much the very beginning of Harry and Meghan’s romance, saying:

“[They] would rather the attention didn’t go onto her. If you look back at some of Harry and Meghan’s biggest problems, it was all down to the fact that everyone was always talking about them, the attention was always on them at times when it shouldn’t have been.”

As for why the Invictus Games founder must show his face at the ceremony despite being at odds with almost everyone, the writer insisted he still “cares” about his relatives and the monarchy:

“There was never any question on whether he would want to come or not. It was a question at one point on whether he would be invited, I think. From what I understand, the Sussexes had to wait for some time to really get the confirmation whether they were 100 percent welcome at this event.”

At the end of the day, Harry and (evidently) his estranged family knew how important it was for him to be there, Scobie explained:

“Ultimately, he is fifth in line to the throne. He is a Councillor of State. There is a serious constitutional reason for him to be here, and he takes that seriously, even though he’s not a working member of the royal family.”

Because of his decision to walk away from his duties, he won’t be treated the same as others:

“Unfortunately, there is nothing carved out in the ceremony for him, and I would imagine if Harry and Meghan were working royals still, and everything had worked out differently, there may have been some way for them to have been orchestrated into it, or at least to be visible on that big balcony. But obviously, that’s not the case, and people are wondering where Harry will be. Will he be with the civvies or will he be with his family members, and if he is what row will he be in?”

Wherever he gets placed during the ceremony will be a huge telling point in how Charles and the others feel about him right now!!

Speaking of, the journalist revealed Harry and Charles have been in very regular communication ever since Spare was released, and while the conversations may not have gotten into the nitty gritty of their struggles, the situation is far better than Harry’s feud with Prince William:

“There has been minimal contact since the Queen’s funeral.”

This is a very important week for the family. Not only will they be honoring King Charles III and Queen Camilla during Saturday’s coronation, but they will also be celebrating their daughter Princess Charlotte‘s 8th birthday on Tuesday. Not to mention nephew Prince Archie will be celebrating his 4th birthday on Saturday, as well. Fun!

Let’s hope the good times aren’t disrupted by Prince Harry‘s arrival in the UK. We know the brothers aren’t on good terms! Thoughts? Let us know (below)!

With King Charles III’s coronation just days away now, the Duke of Sussex is reportedly “very nervous” about attending solo!

According to Nick Bullen, the editor-in-chief of True Royalty TV, to Us Weekly on Monday, Harry is very uncertain how the family reunion will play out amid rising tensions in his ongoing feud with his father and brother, Prince William. Because of this, he’s planning to make his trip as short as possible. Nick explained:

“I think he’ll be nervous about how the family [will] react to him, and I think it’s pretty clear that he’s gonna minimize the amount of time that he’s in London. He’s already said that he wants to be back for [Prince] Archie’s birthday that afternoon, that evening.”

He’ll be back by the evening?! That’s a SUPER short visit then!

As Perezcious readers know, Buckingham Palace confirmed earlier this month that the Spare memoirist will be the only one of his family to make the trek to the UK, leaving Meghan Markle at home with the kids in California to celebrate Archie’s fourth birthday on May 6, which is the same day as Charles and Queen Camilla’s crowning. The royal expert continued:

“It will be very much of a fly-in visit. Harry isn’t part of the procession or the balcony appearance.”

Because he isn’t a working royal, he won’t have any responsibilities during the festivities, which helps him swoop in and out. It’s unclear if he’ll even interact with his family at all during the event. If William gets his way, he’ll probably be kicked to the curb!

If it weren’t important for Charles to have his entire family present for the official start of his reign then we’re not even sure Harry would be welcomed! After all the allegations he accused of his family in press interviews and media projects over the last few years, he’s definitely burned many bridges within the royal family. Things are so bad, nobody even wants to talk to him during the coronation! And it’s not like Meghan would have fared any better if she had decided to attend.

While a source previously told Us the monarch “was hoping the coronation would be a chance to better connect and maintain healing between [him and Meghan],” we’re not so sure we believe that. Considering the lengths the rest of the royal family reportedly went to keep her away from the ceremony, it seems like they got exactly what they wanted!

Because of this ongoing rift, it doesn’t sound like the Suits alum minds skipping the historic ceremony. Her son’s birthday gives her a perfect excuse to bow out of the awkward family reunion, a second source shared:

“As much as Meghan appreciates the invite to the coronation, she wouldn’t miss her son’s birthday for the world. Despite being the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan is a mom first. She feels very grateful to be included in such a special occasion by the royal family and is glad that Harry can go and show support on behalf of their family. But being the same day as Archie’s birthday, unfortunately, she’s just going to have to miss out on this one.”

As for what Archie’s birthday party will entail, a third source dished:

“Meghan is planning something really low-key. Since Harry won’t be able to attend, she just wants to do something intimate with family and a few very close friends.”
