For those who haven’t heard, the pair announced on Instagram this week that they’ve decided to go their separate ways after six years of marriage. They wrote in a joint statement to fans:

“For some time, we have considered transforming our relationship, and it is after careful consideration that we have decided to end our marriage with love, respect and dignity for our children — preserving and honoring what we have experienced as a couple all these wonderful years. Our greatest desire now is to continue having a healthy family dynamic and a relationship centered on genuine friendship as we continue the joint upbringing of our children. As always, we thank you for all the love and support we received throughout our marriage. We are united in nurturing this new chapter of our lives.”

The reason for this sudden split? In a divorce petition filed by Ricky on Wednesday and obtained by People, he listed the old catch-all: “irreconcilable differences.” Hmm. He requested joint custody of their 4-year-old daughter Lucia and 3-year-old son Renn. The 51-year-old singer also agreed to pay spousal support to Jwan, in addition to his attorney fees. However, he has “yet to determine the full nature and extent of the separate property assets and obligations of each party” based on their prenup. It seems like Ricky is determined to make sure this divorce moves forward amicably – though we’ll have to see if that continues since not all of the details are hashed out yet.

Nevertheless, the divorce news came as a complete shock to fans. It seemed out of the blue, even to us! But apparently, those in Jwan and Ricky’s inner circle weren’t caught off guard by the split at all as they’ve known the former couple been “having relationship issues for two years now.” Oof. What were those problems within their marriage? Well, details weren’t given at the time.

However, a new report from Dailymail.com on Friday dropped a bombshell claim about Ricky and Jwan. An insider described as a close friend of the Livin’ La Vida Loca artist revealed that they were in an open marriage! They said:

“Like many couples, Ricky and Jwan had an open relationship for most of their marriage. This worked for them, until it didn’t.”

Wait, so was this the real reason for the divorce?! Not quite. The source made it clear to the outlet that no one fell for anyone else nor was the alleged arrangement remotely the cause of their marriage problems, explaining:

“Neither of them fell in love with someone else. Sex was something they engaged in together and separate with other partners. In the end, they decided that it was best for them, their well-being and for their kids if they end it amicably.”

Neither Ricky nor Jwan has addressed the report at this time. But the actor has been vocal about normalizing open relationships while discussing his role as Antonio D’Amico in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story during a 2018 interview with Vulture.

Thursday morning, the exes revealed that after six long years or marriage, they’ve decided to end their relationship. The wrote in a joint statement on their Instagram pages:

While it sounds like they’re really going to try and remain as amicable as possible for the sake of their family, split news just wasn’t something we were necessarily expecting from the estranged pair. It all just seems so sudden! Of course, there’s been the drama with the sexual assault claims aimed ay Ricky by his own nephew, Dennis Yadiel Sanchez, but last summer Jwan seemingly indicated that he didn’t believe any of it after the initial case was dropped. A source close to the pair revealed that their relationship problems aren’t exactly new:

“Ricky and Jwan have been having relationship issues for two years now.”

Damn. Who would have known? Well, their inner circle! The insider added that the 51-year-old singer and the 38-year-old artist have been “very open telling friends about their issues.”

Now, we’re all for venting to your close pals, but how “open” is too open? When you represent your partner in a certain light to the people who love you, it’s not unusual for them to form their own outlook on that person, making a messy situation, well, even messier. However, the source did add they “were in therapy together,” but just “sadly couldn’t work things out.”

Sad. However, this actually isn’t the first time something has come out about their relationship challenges…

Back in 2020, the Livin’ La Vida Loca singer opened up to Univision about how the two “had problems” because of his own control issues — even when it came down to something as simple as changing their daughter’s diaper. He explained to the outlet at the time:

“[Jwan] would say, ‘Let me change her,’ and I would say, ’No! I’m going to change her.’”

We can definitely see how that would get difficult.

As for now, the source added “they’re planning on 50/50 custody to remain amicable for their family,” which includes 4-year-old daughter Lucia and 3-year-old son Renn. Ricky also is father to 14-year-old twin sons Matteo and Valentino, which he welcomed via surrogate in 2008. People reported Thursday Ricky will continue to raise them as a single father.

The Livin’ La Vida Loca singer and Jwan Yosef, who tied the knot in 2017, announced early Thursday morning that they are officially divorcing — but are doing so with “respect and dignity.” In a joint statement, the exes shared on Instagram:

“For some time, we have considered transforming our relationship, and it is after careful consideration that we have decided to end our marriage with love, respect and dignity for our children — preserving and honoring what we have experienced as a couple all these wonderful years. Our greatest desire now is to continue having a healthy family dynamic and a relationship centered on genuine friendship as we continue the joint upbringing of our children.”

Sad! Sometimes relationships just can’t be saved, but it’s great to hear that the two are keeping in mind all the “wonderful years” they spent together, as well as their two children, daughter Lucia, 4, and son Renn, 3. Martin is also father to 14-year-old twin sons Matteo and Valentino, whom People noted he will continue to raise as a single father.

They concluded their announcement:

“As always, we thank you for all the love and support we received throughout our marriage. We are united in nurturing this new chapter of our lives.”

It sounds like they’re really going to try to continue to be present in one another’s lives for the sake of their children, which is great. Separation is tough enough on kids, hard feelings don’t need to be added into the mix. We love their comment about being “united in nurturing this new chapter” — it just shows how maturely they seem to be handling it all!

Martin and Yosef first met online in 2015 via Instagram, and quickly began dating six months later after they met face-to-face in London. Then, in November 2016, Martin announced the two had gotten engaged during an episode of The Ellen Degeneres Show, where the Puerto Rican singer described how it all went down:

“I got on my knees, and I took out the little metal box. I just had it in a little velvet pouch and instead of saying, ‘Will you marry me?’ I said, ‘I got you something!’ Then he was like, ‘Yes.’”

Well, nothing truly lasts forever, we guess. We wonder if all of Ricky’s drama with the sexual assault claims from his nephew played a role in his fallout with Jwan…

This controversy with Ricky Martin just took an unexpected turn…

Just days after suing his nephew Dennis Yadiel Sanchez over false incest and sexual abuse allegations, police spokesman Edward Ramírez told The Associated Press on Saturday the 50-year-old singer was named in another sexual assault complaint filed on Friday at the police department in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Details of the allegation, as well as the name of the person who filed the complaint, have not been made public due to the nature of the complaint.

However, the outlet reported someone unauthorized to speak about the case had confirmed that Dennis was the one who filed the new complaint. The person also noted that the latest accusations do not immediately warrant an arrest since the alleged incident did not happen recently, adding that law enforcement is investigating to determine whether charges are necessary. Whoa…

Ricky’s attorney José Andréu-Fuentes seemingly confirmed the 21-year-old was the person who made the new complaint. Without naming names, he told People in a statement on Sunday:

“These claims are wildly offensive and completely untethered from reality. When this man previously made similar allegations, his legal case had to be withdrawn — not least because he himself admitted under oath that Ricky Martin had never assaulted him in any way. Now, after being sued for trying to extort Mr. Martin, he is attempting to spread his lies again. It is beyond time that the media stops giving this deeply troubled individual the oxygen of publicity and allows him to get the help he so clearly needs.”

The legal move seems to be in response to the Glee alum filing a $20 million lawsuit against Dennis and accusing him of “extortion, malicious prosecution, abuse of rights, and damages” over the first sexual abuse allegations. As you may recall, Dennis first requested a domestic abuse restraining order against the Livin’ La Vida Loca artist in July, claiming the pair were romantically involved for seven months and stalked and harassed him once the alleged incestuous relationship ended. Ricky vehemently denied the allegations when it came out. While the uncle was prepared to fight against the claims in court, things took a turn when Dennis withdrew his claim, and the judge subsequently dismissed the case.

Despite ending the court case at the time, Ricky further claimed that Dennis continued to harass him, sending “more than 10 messages” every day. He also supposedly shared the musician’s private number on Instagram, forcing Ricky to change it. Yikes!

As we previously reported, back in July, the longtime pop star was accused of incestuous sexual abuse by the younger nephew. At the time, the accuser alleged he and Ricky had a 7-month-long relationship that began after the Livin’ La Vida Loca singer supposedly stalked and harassed his target.

Martin quickly and strongly denied the allegation after it came out. The nephew filed a restraining order against Ricky, but as attention turned to the story, it blew up in the young man’s face. He quickly withdrew his claim, vindicating the singer, and seemingly ending the controversy. But, well, it’s back now.

While Martin’s name may have been cleared in a court of law, TMZ reported on Wednesday afternoon that the 50-year-old crooner’s troubles with his nephew are still ongoing. But the shoe is on the other foot now: the Puerto Rican-born singer is the one initiating legal action this time!!

According to the outlet, on Wednesday morning, Martin filed suit against Dennis Yadiel Sanchez in San Juan. The singer’s latest move in court claims the younger man is trying to “assassinate” his character with the untrue allegations of abuse. The suit, which seeks $20 million (!!!) in compensation, accuses Sanchez of “extortion, malicious prosecution, abuse of rights, and damages.”

The issue for Martin is that Sanchez’s harassment has allegedly continued even after he rescinded his restraining order! The suit claims Dennis began sending Ricky messages on Instagram again about a month after this controversy first bubbled up. Per People, the star’s suit states:

“The situation has continued despite the defendant voluntarily withdrawing from an action he had commenced against Plaintiff based on falsehoods, during which he admitted under oath that he had never been sexually assaulted by Plaintiff.”

And Ricky’s legal team went on from there:

“Defendant Sanchez filed his request for a Protective Order based on malice and animosity against Plaintiff, for the mere fact that he failed to answer his multiple messages. … [Sanchez] has threatened and extorted Plaintiff that, unless he is economically compensated, he will continue his campaign to assassinate his reputation and integrity, through false and malicious imputations.”

OMG! The messages haven’t been rare, either. Ricky claims in the filing that his nephew has often been sending “more than 10” messages per day, according to TMZ.

Ugh!!

Months ago, the docs claim, Sanchez was supposedly “publicly boasting” about being Ricky’s nephew. Something snapped in more recent times, though. Along with July’s shocking untrue allegations, Dennis also allegedly posted Ricky’s cell phone number on IG and created a fan account for one of the star’s children without permission. That’s definitely creepy…

Now, concerned about the potential for escalation, Martin’s lawyers told the court the man is a “maladjusted individual.” The suit was filed because Ricky claims he’s lost “numerous multi-million dollar deals” due to his nephew’s false allegations, according to TMZ. So, the A-list performer wants $20 MILLION from his relative to recoup the biz failures.

Jeez!! We doubt he’s ever going to see that kind of cash, but the lawsuit certainly sends a message. More realistically, Ricky’s filing also alleges his family feels “unsafe” in Puerto Rico right now. They are asking a judge to order Dennis to stop communicating with them. That part certainly seems reasonable enough. No one should be made to feel unsafe like that!!

On Thursday, Jwan Yosef took to Instagram to finally address the shocking claims that the 50-year-old star and his nephew were involved in an incestuous relationship. Now that the case has been dropped, Jwan is clearly ready to breathe a sigh of relief!

Alongside a selfie of the couple, the 37-year-old painter simply wrote:

“Truth Prevails”

As you know, Ricky’s legal drama began earlier this month when he was served a temporary domestic violence restraining order from a person the performer allegedly dated for seven months. However, their identity remained anonymous at the time due to the Domestic Abuse Prevention and Intervention Act in Puerto Rico. His brother later identified the accuser as Ricky’s 21-year-old nephew, Dennis Yadiel Sanchez, who was shockingly claiming they had been in a romantic relationship for a while. Once it ended, though, the family member said Ricky started to stalk and harass him.

The Livin’ La Vida Loca artist vehemently denied all the allegations when they came out, and was prepared to defend himself when the two eventually went to court this week. But the restraining order against Ricky was dismissed on Thursday after Dennis decided to have the case withdrawn.

Ricky later recorded a video obtained by TMZ to touch on the situation, noting that he needed to talk to begin the “healing process” over these allegations. The Evita actor said:

“For two weeks, I was not allowed to defend myself because I was following procedure, where the law obligated me not to talk until I was in front of the judge. Thank God these claims were proven to be false, but I’m going to tell you the truth, it has been so painful and devastating for me, for my family, for my friends. I don’t wish this upon anybody.”

The Menudo vet went on to say he wishes “the person who was claiming this nonsense” nothing but “the best” and is looking to take time to “heal” after everything that went down:

“I wish him the best and I wish that he finds the help so he can start a new life filled with love and truth and joy and he doesn’t hurt anybody else. Now, my priority is to heal. And how do I heal? With music. I cannot wait to be back onstage. I cannot wait to be back in front of the cameras and entertain, which is what I do best.”

As we’ve previously reported, his 21-year-old nephew, Dennis Yadiel Sanchez, made shocking allegations of incest and domestic violence against the singer — allegations that were formally dismissed on Thursday. Sanchez had claimed they were together for seven months, also accusing the 50-year-old recording artist of stalking and harassing him after it ended. The pop star was then hit with a temporary domestic violence restraining order.

Although Ricky was prepared to continue to argue his innocence in court, he never got the chance to do so since the judge lifted the restraining order. And that happened because the nephew withdrew the allegations!

Hours after the hearing, the Livin’ La Vida Loca star is now ready to speak out, he says, “in order to start my healing process.” In a video obtained by TMZ, Ricky sat in front of the camera to address his fans and explain why he was not allowed to fully talk about the accusations when they first came out:

“For two weeks, I was not allowed to defend myself because I was following procedure, where the law obligated me not to talk until I was in front of the judge.”

He continued:

“Thank God these claims were proven to be false, but I’m going to tell you the truth, it has been so painful and devastating for me, for my family for my friends. I don’t wish this upon anybody.”

The Glee alum then had a message “to the person who was claiming this nonsense,” claiming he had no ill-will for his nephew, whom he previously claimed suffered from mental health issues:

Moving forward, Ricky said his priority is to “heal” since the legal case is over. How does he plan on doing that? Only the best way he knows how — through music. He concluded:

Thank you to all of my fans who always believed in me. You have no idea how much strength that you gave me with every comment you wrote on social media. I wish you love and light.”

The father of four will be performing a concert at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles over the weekend — so he’ll be getting to do what he loves most now that this messy situation is over.
